So our daughter has always wanted to go to Finland and last year I found a really good deal on a 12 day cruise out of Dover England which goes to Finland. So since she graduates this year I decided to book it.
Planning this has taken a lot of time and I haven’t finished all the details yet. But I did manage to get a lot of travel plans taken care of today.
First thing was airfare. We actually booked it months ago using airline mile 🙌🏼. And to get it cheaper and not have to have a red eye flight we are flying out of JFK. So this meant I had to come up with transportation. So I found Amtrak. It’s a 12 hour train ride but it also has Wi-Fi which means Jason can work the travel day to NYC and back to NC. Total cost for three people round trip was only $594 which I think was well worth it.
So then I had to get a hotel room for the night before our flight. My two requirements for the hotel was one walking distance from Penn Station and on the cheaper side, after all it’s only one night. So I found Double Tree by Hilton in Times Square. Only .4 miles from Penn Station. Booked it the night we get to NYC and the night our flight gets back from London.
On to our stay in London. Being it’s our first time there I wanted to spend some time there to sightsee. When staying out of the country I try to go with VRBO as most of the time it’s cheaper then a hotel and of course more room. A washer is a plus as I pack light since we have free laundry on our cruise but like to have everything clean before getting on the ship. We are staying 4 days in London before taking the train to Dover.
After the cruise I did choose a hotel close to London Heathrow as we are only staying two nights before our flight home. The good thing about the hotel is it’s close to the tube station to still travel around London and to get to the airport. I ended up going with Holiday Inn Express London Heathrow. Lexie will have to sleep on a pull our sofa for two nights but she’s young.
I look forward to documenting this journey and sharing as we go. Lots of countries to see such as Germany, England, Estonia, Finland, Denmark, and Sweden.
